Why would a program like LSU hire someone who has never done anything just to save relocation costs? Why do people always want to hire within? How many times in the history of sports has it been a good hire?

Jimbo Fisher seems to be a pretty good example. I'm sure there are many more.

Hiring from within ensures there isn't a dip in production or a change in philosophy, if it's working of course. I think AC is a rising star in the sport and probably should be given the opportunity to be the HC after a few more years under PM.

in college baseball currentlyoff the top of my head:
Mike Martin - FSU
Josh Holliday - OSU (was an assistant for OSU, then had several other assistant jobs before being named HC)
Dan Heefner - Dallas Baptist
Chad Holbrook - USC (hasn't made it to Omaha yet, but we'll see on him)
Blake Dean - UNO - has done a great job so far

Brad Stevens worked out for Butler in basketball
