This. I'm 25 as well and use venmo on a weekly basis. It is incredibly user friendly and the most convenient way to process money transactions between friends that I know of.
No more friends having to "get you back" only to forget to pay you later on. It's 2016, cash is inconvenient and humans have an attention span of a goldfish- you're probably not getting paid back.
You owe someone for gas, food, bills, whatever it is and you submit the payment on venmo and it's in their bank account the very next day, oh and it's free if you use ACH/debit...
I consider any of my friends that don't use venmo to be assholes.
Also, I don't have a lock on my phone but I do have a lock code to open the venmo app so I'm also protected if my phone were to ever be stolen.
Paypal is essentially the same thing as venmo except for that more people (my age) use venmo than paypal (probably because of the user interface), so I see no point in having two applications with the same function.
ETA: I only use paypal for online payments i.e. ebay purchases or a-holes that refuse to use venmo
