First of all, it holds up. Probably holds a nice number 2 position behind Die Hard for the genre.

My question though: Why did Johua (Bussey) go to Murtaugh's house after the freeway shoot out?

Makes no sense to me.

He was an unstable sociopath that had his plan foiled. The character had literally never tasted defeat before, so it was his last attempt at victory.

Lethal Weapon > Die Hard.

Die Hard is as overrated as stuffed crust pizza.

Odds are that Bussey decided to show up to that house irl and the director just ran with it.

Yeah, for him it was a competition for best killer between him and Riggs.

OP, you should go through and watch the sequels. They get more action comedy as it goes on. The second one is at least very worth watching. The last two are more questionable, but there are worse ways to waste some time.

it was personal to him at that point and he wanted revenge. i don't think he was very rational at that point

I've seen them all multiple times. Been a while though.

I've always enjoyed the original. I like the second one too, but I haven't seen any after that. It's so 80's action stereotyped, from Riggs' mullet to the whining guitar background. It's even better that we found out that Mel Gibson wasn't actually acting in the movie, he was playing Mel Gibson.

I liked the second one more than the first. But they are both great movies.

Oops. I misread your title. I left out the "in years" part. I thought it was weird that you would just now be getting around to this.

Stuffed crust pizza is not overrated, as we as a society all pretty much agree that it sucks. It is properly rated.

I do enjoy Lethal Weapon a lot, particularly because the lethal weapon referred to in the title is Riggs' mental instability. Even for an 80s action movie, it portrays Riggs' trauma as a bad thing, and he needs to reign himself in to become a complete, functioning person. It works as more than just a shoot 'em up film.

But Gary Busey is the best damn villain.

Rite of passage...I watched it with my teenage son last week. He was pretty blown away by it...it absolutely still holds up.

Wasn't this the movie where he took the gun apart? Also I don't remember him having any lines.
