I've done several solo trips, including Isla Mujeres back when nothing there was over 3 stories high. It's a mixed bag for me- enjoy the freedom, don't have to worry about whether anyone else is having fun. Do miss sharing cool experiences. Does force me out of my comfort zone and into talking to people I wouldn't normally. Always better than staying home just cause you can't find travel partner
