No, although I've been around plenty of guns, I don't recall a situation where someone was acting foolish with a gun around me.
I think the average person knows a life threatening situation when they see it. Law enforcement, out of fear for their own safety, sees what could become a life threatening situation much further out than most. The problem is that they face little to no repercussions from situations that COULD have been life threatening but weren't there yet.
Yeah, but LEO's are also humans. Maybe his kid was sick last night and he didn't sleep much, he walks up to the car and hears gun and a high guy rapidly moving to the back of his pants like he's grabbing a gun.
If you truly wanted to make traffic stops safe, you have everyone in the vehicle get out of the vehicle before the officers walk up. Beyond that, it is always dangerous and little can be done for officer safety other than having multiple officers there.
I would bet that walking up to a trashy looking vehicle with trashy looking people inside on traffic stop is probably "scarier" than anything most people have ever done. These guys do it all the time for average pay.

Maybe, but is that the victim's fault?

Then that is what they should do.

I'm pretty tired of the "shite pay" remark about cops. Is it a surprise to those who sign up? Seems pretty well documented, no? If we doubled their salaries would they stop killing people? Roofers are 3x more likely to be killed than a police officer, and they do it for shite pay too.

quote:Yep, they are humans, and humans do make mistakes. But hypothetically, if it played out like that, he 100% should be punished. There's nothing that could have happened to him previously that would excuse the hypo you threw out.
