I think portability is a little overrated because even a large sized HD is pretty easily transported. This will solely be for at home use in a fairly static location.

Portability has been significant for me in the past, travelled a lot for work. The size of the drive was not the issue, it was having a separated power supply or even cord to carry. Given that USB powered was a must. For your application it isn't and that's where I generally have seen really good price per GB
