Always a good idea. I was thinking portability but rereading his OP, I think that is not a real consideration. A larger HD in a powered case (not USB powered) is generally cheaper per memory unit.

I think portability is a little overrated because even a large sized HD is pretty easily transported. This will solely be for at home use in a fairly static location.
