This just simply isn't true. I've seen multiple AR15s/AR10s that have tested sub-MOA from the factory. One example would be the S&W M&P10.

As for felt recoil, the beautiful thing about going with an AR is that almost all of them will have a threaded barrel for a muzzle device. You may want to double up on hearing protection but if you're only concerned with limiting recoil, a muzzle brake is a simple solution.

To the OP, spend the extra money and get the Smith. It will run better than the DPMS and have much better accuracy. If you need a reviewer to tell you, watch this NutNfancy review. Skip to about the 25 minute mark to see the accuracy. He was consistently shooting sub-MOA on a factory rifle - M&P10.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the M&P10 has an 18" barrel and ambi controls...
