Most proponents of autopilot cars claim that it will make the road a safer place because the autopilot system will be better at driving and making decisions than a human. We obviously are not there yet.

But has Tesla ever held autopilot out to be autonomous?

Not saying that's what happened in this instance, but it seems like a lot of the Tesla wrecks are from people treating autopilot like it's completely " set it and forget it" autonomous driving, which I don't believe it's designed to be.

My backup camera alerts for cracks in the driveway, sticks, and even shadows. Until the sensors get a lot better you'll be slamming on the brakes ever mile or two.
