I notice lots of fences are done with alternating sides. I thought it was odd when I first saw it but it is seemingly becoming the norm.

I don't know why people don't put up "shadow box" wooden fences. It looks much better than that crap and uses about the same amount of fence boards. Its win, win for both sides.

But if I had an HOA that required that I'd move or never bought.

Just hang boards on your side and be done with it. Make them change the crooked corner post but the others will be hidden. Plant shrubs in front of it.

This is alternating sides, OP fence looks terrible.
