The NFL is everything that is wrong with American professional sports. Over-hyped and over-commercialized; I find it incredibly cheesy and difficult to watch. Greedy owners and organizations don't help.

All American professional sports leagues should be forced to use promotion/relegation systems like English soccer. Our professional sports leagues are ridiculously anti-competitive, and the laws protecting the leagues/teams should be changed.

I appreciate baseball and try to enjoy it, but the MLB season is too damn long and each game clocks in at 3-4 hours. This makes the individual games seem utterly meaningless to me. What is the damn point of having so many regular season games? The NBA and NHL could shorten their regular seasons a bit as well.

Salary caps are anti-competitive and ridiculous. Players should be able to earn what they are worth. I'm ok with minimum salaries for the sake of some parity and player protection - but salary caps effectively allow greedy owners to hold on to more share than they are entitled/underpay most players.

I hate the way drafts works. The worst teams should not be rewarded with the top picks. Nothing else in life functions that way. I'd just assume have a free agency without the draft. Players and teams should be able to mutually agree on contracts without a draft. Strict roster limitations should prevent big teams from gobbling up too many players.

Travel baseball is fun. Most parents that we have meet are not trying to live out some childhood fantasy, most just like to watch their kids.

I'll agree with most of that. I hate drafts. The player should at least have some say about which team he plays for. Pro/Rel in all sports would be great.

Agreed.

I'm not a baseball hater, though it has fallen deeply out of favor with me over the last two decades, but the season is unbelievably long. Whenever you have 100+ games in a team sport, it immediately devalues the import of your day-to-day product. The NBA could stand to lose a few empty calories games as well.

It'll never happen, but the MLB regular season should start in May and end in August. Having a regular season from April to October is absurd.

The guys on the Deadspin podcast had a pretty good idea about this a few weeks ago. They proposed a sort of auction-based bidding process to replace professional sports drafts, sort of like what you see in fantasy drafts.

I've never quite understood why leagues and teams mandate where players must start their professional careers. It's ironic that players can freely choose where they play their college ball but they can't make any money during that time, and when they can finally make money by being a professional they can't choose where they play for the first few years of their career.

MLB games (2:56) are shorter on average than NFL (3:12) games.
