He didn't say that Michigan fans were delusional because Michigan didn't have a rich tradition. He said that there were delusional because they thought they could low ball coaches and they would just come to Michigan just because they were Michigan. That isn't how the real world works.
Plus, you had a coach that won a national championship, won 5 Big Ten titles, took you to bowl games every year, and was a few plays away from the national championship last year and he was only getting paid 1.5 mill. So, you're lowballing new candidates and you didn't pay your previous coach the going rate. Most people in this day and age would not go to that situation if they felt they could do better in ANY profession, much less coaching where a few bad years means that you're likely done forever (see Larry Coker).
Michigan has to start paying if they want top coaches. If they don't realize that, they are delusional. Nothing against Michigan. Those are the facts.
