Some people believe in the saying that all publicity is good publicity. This has certainly worked in the music industry for groups like 2 Live Crew, ICP, and Marilyn Manson. I think it will help Ghostbusters a little as well.

I think the criticism was so harsh they're hoping on a bridesmaids audience to bail them out

Women who wouldn't want to see it go see it as a feminist, it's your duty. I'm not saying they should change anything about the movie based on the criticism, but the response from Sony and people involved has been...odd

Whether the criticism is legit or not, that doesn't make the critic a sexist all the promo interviews for this have centered around the "controversy"...that's helped some movies sure, but there is no controversy.

also consider how they totally dropped the ball on the actual controversy surrounding the interview. they looked like total incompetent cowards with every course of action.

I don't think its true.

There are a lot of movies that got "its a shitty movie" publicity and flopped.

The musical groups you used got "This is corrupting or children and is filthy " publicity which makes people go "i want to be corrupted lets do this"
