You can if you have really good players....which he did. Johnny is an excellent recruiter but his coaching philosophies/implementation of fundamentals and team concepts are downright disgusting.
I think we need to clarify if the word "coach" is simply based on teaching or if it includes recruiting. If the latter is considered in the argument then no he's not terrible.

I agree, neither great nor horrible. We will just be average because he is an average coach. Trent Johnson was freaking horrible!! Would you prefer to have him back? Let's face it, we will never be Duke, Kentucky, Mich State because we will never be a basketball school.
Oh we might have success from time to time like we did under Daddy Dale and Brady, but that will be it. Like it or not.
Getting back to the OP, two words, Tim Quarterman. Our success was pretty much all up to his play.
