He was really good, but he had unlimited schollies. Fred Lynn didn't start for USC until his Junior year, 2 years later he was rookie of the year and MVP in the American league. Talked to him in 1998 the night LSU lost to USC for the 2nd time, very nice man, in an Italian rest.

Skip was more than a great baseball coach. Some forget all the things he did to get people into the old Box. I remember the San Diego Chicken coming to BR a few times, the used car give aways, the family plan season passes, and the golden arches light in center field...if a home run was hit while it was on, everyone could win a free Big Mac. He was a great marketing exec too!

This. If Skip wasn't restricted in the number of scholarships that he could award, he would have won far more national titles than Dedeaux even.
