I don't know about you but in most of the places I go I have an old college or high school friend, or cousin, etc. that lives there. I do my best to grab a meal with them or stop by their house...also helps seeing a familiar face when you're away for a few days.

Definitely. I do it as often as possible. Twice this week, and two scheduled visits next week, actually. I've kept up with many friendships that would've otherwise drifted away.
