I was there in 2003 when we gave UNC-Wilmington a victory lap because they eliminated Tulane, which was a super heated rivalry at the time, on Saturday and they pushed us to the limit in extras on Sunday. Almost every LSU fan there that weekend rooted hard for Wilmington to beat Tulane both times they squared off. I was there and participated in the SEA-HAWKS chants that weekend when they played Tulane. Our fanbase got behind them only to spite Tulane. That's how this whole victory lap for the other team started (At least to my memory). They deserved a victory lap first and foremost because we won and because in the process they helped us to do so. It was an awesome weekend of baseball and rooting against a Tulane team that had been a thorn in our side for the previous three years.

Somewhere along the line since then our baseball fanbase has become self-righteous and thinks we should be giving everyone victory laps. This whole giving victory laps to teams that beat our arse in the postseason is getting old. IMO, I think our baseball fans have become too comfortable in the new Box. After sitting in an uncomfortable seat for 3 hours in the miserable May/June heat at the Old Box no fan would have been willing to stick around to give somebody who just beat us a victory lap.

I know all the excuses for the pro-victory lap crowd, its just a game, the players are amateurs, the players have never played in an environment like this before, we have the best fans in the world, yada yada yada. My question to anyone who thinks victory laps to a victorious opponent is acceptable is -> If Nick Saban and Alabama beat us in Tiger Stadium this year do they deserve a victory lap?

That was an awesome series. I was sitting above the 3rd base dugout and the looks on the faces of the UNC-W players when they came out on the field for their first game against Tulane and the capacity crowd was going nuts cheering for them was priceless. This was of course right after LSU had won the first game of the day.

this so true it's so dumb. Back in 2012 after the regional, some dumbass fans around us tried to get the Oregon State team to take a victory lap after we eliminated them. The look they gave the fans basically said "frick off." These people were probably the same idiots that started the Stoney Brook victory lap later that year.

When have we ever given a victory lap to a team that has beaten us? That has never happened. We have given victory laps to teams we have beaten, and a few dozen fans stayed around to cheer for Stony Brook for some reason. But it certainly was not a victory lap. Stop making things up.
