Stayed at the Grande as well and really enjoyed it.
This is the best piece of advice for sure. Also if you walk from the Grande to pigeon island fort (which I would recommend going to) there will be guys walking around trying to sell you stuff or making stupid little flowers and such from plants who will also expect a tip. If I would have been in the US I would've told them to frick off but being in a foreign country I just bit the bullet and tipped them.
That was really the only complaint I had about the place was the fact that there were locals everywhere wanting to sell you stuff and trying to get money off of you. And when you're American you stick out like a sore thumb.
Other than that we really enjoyed the place, the Grande is a fantastic resort. We did snorkeling twice which I would highly recommend. And the restaurants were great also. Book a cabana for a day and relax, that was something we really enjoyed.
This is also definitely a must and check out doing a private dinner on the beach, it was well worth it.

When you land at the airport and get your bags. There will be guys with dollies trying to take your luggage to the sandals resting point. Do not let them take your bag because it is literally a 10 step walk out the door and they will expect a tip.

Do restaurant reservations for dinner the first day you are there for the entire week
