This is something new. Guys raping guys on sports teams seems to be a growing trend. Kind of like the poor kid from Chattanooga that got raped with a pool stick by his teammates.

actually it's been around for a long time, it used to be called hazing or initiating, used to be especially brutal among college football teams

I REALLY don't want to sound like I'm defending this in any way, because it is truly despicable, but I don't think over-the-top violent initiations are a new fad. We hear about them more often because of the ease with which information is spread. If anything, I'd say hazing is treated much more seriously today than at any point in the past, so one would think that sickening events like this were occurring in the past when people were more apt to turn a blind eye to hazing.
