I'm just starting the 529 plan for my first kid. She is only 3 months so I'll have plenty of money by the time the she is 18.
I fully expect a 4 year degree to cost at least 80k for in state students in 18 years. And she will pay the difference if the 529 plan falls short.

For a public college, I'm thinking 80k isn't enough, probably looking at 100k, maybe higher but I haven't really researched. For in state private colleges, 80k isn't nearly enough, not even today. Guess it'll be a million+ in 18 years.
