I'm not necessarily concerned with the looks as much as the functionality.

Well the Patagonia fits your functionality request well, if the sizing works.

FWIW I have several Filson bags that often get left at home on longer trips. I love the stuff, but it's just not as practical some of the time. Filson is making some bags in a lighter nylon fabric, but nothing like you're looking for.

I use a Tom Bihn Aeronaut 45 pretty much exclusively. Able to load up everything for a 6 day trip to the PNW next week no issues. Whatever you end up with, look into the one bag carry websites for packing tips / techniques. Really can stretch the amount of stuff you can get into a bag.
