Dinner and a good movie. Only the second date. Solidify it by talking to her...more importantly...listen to her.
Make the third one offbeat or crazy. Not the second.
I disagree. Movies don't make for good early dates. You're basically sitting in relative silence next to each other for 90 minutes. The first three dates are always about getting to know one-another, and going to see a movie may be fun, but it does not accomplish that purpose.
The first date should be something relaxed, but still a little conservative. You're trying to impress her some, but you can't go too far or else you'll look like you're trying too hard or set unrealistic expectations for the relationship. Dinner at at a reasonably priced, but kinda trendy (think Pinetta's, Degullio Bros, City Pork, The Chimes, ect), restaurant is a good play. Baseball games are perfect as an activity because there is just enough going on that you don't need to talk the whole time, but plenty of space for conversation. That's the kind of activity you should be shooting for. Something where you can talk, but don't necessarily have to to keep it from being awkward.
The second date is all about getting out of your comfort zone and showing her a little quirkiness. Mini-golf and go-karts are perfect. It's fun, relaxed, and competitive without being mean-spirited. Paintball may be a little too much (or may not be depending on the girl), but laser tag would likely be fun. Zoos and aquariums are good. Firing range can be fun. It should make her feel like a kid and be something memorable and fun. Maybe take her to your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant afterwards.
The third date is generally a little more romantic. This is where you show that, sure, you're fun and quirky, but you can also clean up nice too. Take her to a little nicer place than your first date restaurant, but nothing too high-priced (Gouter, Table, Parrain's, ect). As an activity, take her to a play or a concert, somewhere where you should dress fairly nice. That way she gets to dress up for you. After that's over, take her to a nice cocktail bar or a real laid back beer bar with a great atmosphere (Lock & Key, Radio Bar, patio at the Bulldog, the Cove, Draft House). A jazz band is a plus (Blues Room) so ya'll can slow dance while feeling classy. Finish the night by taking her to a place that's special to you. Maybe it's a spot that offers a great view. Maybe it's your favorite spot for drunk food. Maybe it's the first place you ever heard the Beatles, I don't know. Either way, it will be memorable.

quote:this is some great advice. Never go super fancy on the first date. It can be awkward if you do and put too many expectations on the rest. But by the third date, you should have an idea of this is heading anywhere. That's when you impress her and make everything official.
