Jesus that looked pretty flagrant
Posted on 5/23/16 at 7:45 pm to John Keating
pretty smart on the players part to get him on his side as fast as possible

Holy shite
Also pretty dangerous to move him, given the angle and force of that hit.

true. with blood coming out of his mouth that fast, it's damned if you do damned if you don't

Yes, the Chicago player said that he was afraid Kudo would choke on his own blood and that he also heard gurgling which made him concerned that Kudo might be choking on his own regurgitation. His first instinct was to clear his airway which is why you see him opening Kudo's mouth with his fingers.

Airway is always the first thing you address.

I saw that live. It was pretty nasty. Looks like it was even worse than a broken jaw. He was just starting to have a really good season too. Shame.

That wasn't flagrant for fricks sake ... its actually great goalkeeping.

Yea, that was definitely intentional.
Maybe not to hurt him like that but he definitely meant to send a get off me message and put something extra into that.

Not at all. Fifty-fifty ball, goalkeeper was just trying to get there first and protect himself. Both players were at top speed.
Unfortunate injury, and certainly wish him all the best, but excellent goalkeeping.

This board is bizarro world sometimes I swear. He has the ball secured two feet on the ground and then jumps up shoulder first into the oncoming player.
Again, I don't think for a second he meant to hurt him like that but the intensity of the contact was without debate intentional.
He could have easily caught that ball and gone low like goalkeepers do 99% of the time when receiving the ball.

Nah, the only thing bizarro is you.

Yeah and thats what GKs are trained to do. Most of the time they are collecting crosses in crowds of 10+ people. You train to win the ball, while protecting yourself AND delivering a blow so players are less likely to challenge you again.

You are absolutely clueless.

This may be the first time I've seen someone agree with a poster and call them clueless at the same time.

I didn't agree with you ... you called it both flagrant and intentional.
It's neither ... its trained. It's a part of the position.
He didn't decide to smash a kid ... its what ALL goalkeepers - at a high level - are trained to do.
Its intentional in that its trained - its not in that he was trying to "attack" a player.

I think he could have done more to avoid the collision, but should he have? Should he potentially injure himself or lose the ball trying to get out of the way of a player who decided to charge head on towards him?

Read my first post again, it says essentially the exact same thing you are saying.
Also, I've watched a lot of soccer and seen that scenario a million times and the keeper virtually always goes low, this keeper had the chance to do the same.
