My kids saw 7 and want to watch the rest now. Should they watch 4 first or 1? Tia

The original trilogy and forget the prequels exist.

I obviously watched 456, 123.
Burin am curious of a 4,5,1.2,3,6 viewing.
The reason I dislike the prequels is I feel they do injustice to the characters. But since the prequels have come out, many worse movies have come out that have been popular so I wonder how much of that is due tithe changing of the times and how movies are made. I think on their own, 1,2,3 are not awful. It's when put in context that they suck.

It works. And they are going to watch the prequels anyway. There's no "forgetting" them now.

Machete Order: 4,5,2,3,6. No reason to watch 1 as it really adds nothing. Important thing is that it keeps the big surprise about Vader being Luke's father.

At first I thought you were insane, but giving it a bit of thought, watching 6 last makes a lot of sense. Very Tarantino-esque.

IV
V
VI
VII
Repeat.
Nothing else. Ever. And seldom 6.

Watch 4, 5 and 6
Then read the Thrawn trilogy

Thanks guys. Got IV going now. No matter the logic, hard to explain to a lay person.

I actually did 4, 1, 5, 2, 3, 6 to gear up for 7 and it was awesome.
SPOILERS BELOW OBVIOUSLY:
Shifting from ANH to TPM to show the parallels is a lot of fun, and getting to know Obi Wan as an apprentice is actually great.
Then going back to Empire for the big reveal leaves you primed for Clone Wars (granted, as primed as can be for that mess) to watch the progression of little Ani into Vader and then just move right into Sith to close out the prequels before going back for Jedi to see how it's all resolved with Jedi.
2 and 3 work best as a whole, and the scenes with Palpatine twisting Anakin, particularly when he tells of Darth Sidius and his pursuit of immortality, are easily the peak of the prequels.
Then you flash forward back to Jedi and see the culmination of Anakin's arc with The Emperor, and Luke's ability resistance as opposed to Anakin's seduction by the dark side in the prequels.
Kind of a different take, but I actually think it makes the prequels easier to watch, although it can also be frustrating because you see the potential that was wasted in so so many scenes.

If you insist on watching the Prequels, the only way to go is 4, 5, 2, 3, 6 and then 7.
There is nothing in 1 of any substance or real relevance to the plot of the saga as a whole. Qui-Gon and Darth Maul are both irrelevant to the storyline behind Episode I, Jar Jar was a farce, and no one cares about trade negotiations or seeing Anakin as a kid or Obi-Wan as an apprentice.
I had a buddy who watched 1-6 in that order, and I feel extremely sorry for anyone who watches Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back for the first time and thinks of Hayden Christensen.

4,5,2,3,6,7. Skip 1 unless you just want to watch Duel of the Fates.
Posted on 5/21/16 at 10:39 pm to Kingpenm3
you should experiment on them and do the Machete Order
45236
And you just don't watch 1 because it sucks
You start with teh best two. Find out that Darth Vader is Lukes father.
Then you go back in time and see how Lukes Father became Darth Vader, and then you finish is off. Everything comes full circles at the same time.
If you watch the Prequels first is ruins the twist that Luke is Darth's son.
It also ads a new twist that nice old Senator Palpatine is actually evil (remember you dont really see his face in the first 2)
Other advantages: You start off with the probably the best 2 movies. Less Jar Jar and less fricking pod racing.

1 2 3 4 5 6 and that's it. 7 made no sense.

These threads always end up with everybody shitting on Ep 1. It's worth watching alone for the podrace scene and the final battle, both of which are awesome, and the final battle also includes the best piece of music John Williams has ever made. The movie is not very good overall but is still enjoyable, and honestly probably has the most cohesive constructed narrative of the 3 prequels. Much Moreso than Ep 2. That thing is a shitshow. And Ep 3 drags for the first half but the 2nd half is great.
Anyway, I'd say 4, 5, 1, 2, 3, 6, 7

For a 7yr old, ep 1 might be "fun" with the pod racers.
