They shouldn't be able to. They would send a swat team to bust your arse if they found out you were trying to sell a boat that's not registered in your name.

It isn't legal, but it isn't illegal. At least not in Alabama. It is referred to as an open title, and slimy dealerships will do that to avoid paying taxes.
