As long as you have the bill of sale when you traded it in, you are not at fault for anything after. Simply go show them the form.

Seriously you are supposed to take your plates off of your car/truck when you trade it in at a dealership?
I have never done this nor had any problems after, but I usually buy my cars from friends that work at dealerships.
