I'm sure it has nothing at all to do with doping.
I mean it's like two players die on the day of the super bowl at the stadium, but it is just bad luck ya know, they could have easily croaked dead out on the practice field.... But they didn't and happened to die on one of the biggest days of their respective lives.

These horses, especially on a big race day like the Preakness, are extensively tested.
Horse who collapsed and died was , while not old, at 9 much older than most race horses. He had a long and tough career.
The second horse, unless it just happened to hit a hole on the track (was on turf, there are divots), may (and I'm not saying did) have had some small weakness to the leg? The owners of that one are part of a big anti drug (legal drugs) movement in racing.
Does doping happen? Yep. Mostly at the smaller tracks for everyday meets. I've completely lost faith in the Louisiana racing system. But big race days they are under a microscope.
We are breeding faster, but much more fragile horses now than we used to. All bred to sell for big bucks, not to race for their breeders. I think this is as much of a problem as drugs.
Thank god Unbridled's song is dead.
Also, horse who died on the first was in a super low level race. His biggest day of his life was in the 2009 champagne stakes. Maybe 2010 derby, but he ran bad.
