Grew up 20 miles over the border in a dry Arkansas county and would go to LA for beer/drink/bars. They had a drive up Liq store that served fruity frozen mixed drinks (styrofoam cups) with a piece of tape over the lid hole to be legal.

Also had a friend get a DWI and ended up making a donation to the county and never got his license taken. This is all early-00's. Wondering if they still have crazy laws and leupolds like that.
