Let's take a closer look at Morey's time in Houston. 9 seasons total 3 seasons missing the playoffs 4 first round exits 1 second round exit 1 WCF appearance Is Morey solid? Sure. Is he overrated by Houston fans otb? Without question.
In his 9 seasons, none of his teams have ever had a losing record. They've been .500 or better every year.

Winning titles in the NBA takes a lot of luck at the right times.

Look at the Spurs, for instance. In 1997 David Robinson gets hurt for the season and they sucked. They win the lottery and draft Tim Duncan and set their franchise up for 20 years. It was luck that Robinson got hurt and allowed them to suck so bad and get the first pick.

The Warriors drafted Draymond Green in the 2nd round. Nobody expected him to be this good. It just so happens that he panned out.

You need luck to go your way.

All Daryl Morey can do is keep putting the odds in his favor that his team will get a little luck to fall their way eventually.

Also remember that Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming basically disappeared due to injury. Yao had to retire. Both of your superstar players disappeared from the roster and they had no trade value. They just vanished. Not tanking and coming back from that as quickly as they did shows that Daryl Morey is a very good GM.

It also shows how big of a dumbass Sam Presti is, but lets not let that get in the way.
