I interact with train crews quite a bit for work. I think a lot of people would be surprised if they actually knew how many collisions and near misses happen on a regular basis.

One of the guys was telling me that he hates the LP fair because it seems like every time they come up on the fairgrounds there are cars hanging out on the tracks waiting to get in or out... and you know damn near every one of those cars has kids in it.

I was riding on a commuter train when an old man walked in front of the train at Germantown, MD and was hit and killed....like terd said, it's a lot more common than people think
