In movies, especially teenage RomComs, the "ugly" character that we're supposed to believe has no friends and no sex appeal is really an OT 8 that happens to have on some glasses, dorky clothes, and/or "quirky" personality that apparently makes him/her a leper.

That's one of the reasons mean girls is such a good movie.
Lohan is obviously somewhat awkward because she's from Africa, but she's immediately in the popular crowd because she's hot. Most movies would make her an outcast.
