Good call; at least they are getting the location right but it's overused. Noticed it last night in Bone Tomahawk. Movies are better about bird calls, they used to be pretty terrible about using the wrong calls for a location.

The scream of a hawk to mean "we are now out in the wilderness" is an overused cliche too. More so on TV than in movies.

Took me a while to identify it. I kept hearing it and thought it was a quail. I've heard it in plenty of movies lately not set in the west though. It must be some standard sound those people can grab at any moment. Like the above mentioned scream.
