You are right in assuming that the cost of installing underground is quite a bit more, but the maintenance (which is more frequent than you think) is also a lot more expensive.

For new subdivisions, the installation cost is lowered because they can trench everything up front before any grass/driveways are laid.

Is it? You'd think it would be less frequent considering there is minimal environmental issues to address. Damn.

Either way, could you propose paying to put your power lines underground on your property with the power company? I know you can run it underground to your home, but I'm talking about paying to put their lines underground that are on your property too.

Or have an entire neighborhood go underground. I've never seen it and I'm sure it is costly, but I wonder if it is even possible.
