If you buy a SIM card at the airport... do you have to have your phone "Unlocked" for it to work properly?

I have an iPhone with AT&T if that matters.

I called AT&T at the airport to ask them this. They didn't seem very sure, even though it was an AT&T SIM card I was looking at for $60. The girl instead talked me into their lowest 30 day international plan for $30. It come with unlimited text and 120mb data - not much data, but if you leave roaming off and only switch it on when needed and get on wifi when possible, it's plenty. I'm on day 6 of a 13 day trip and have only used 17mb so far.

This is why I booted AT&T for most of my company, Verizon $2 a day for Canada and Mexico and $10 a day for all other countries where they have plans, you get full access to all the data and features of your existing plan. You don't have to turn it on or off, if you use it you get charged, if you don't then no charge.
