Here's what I want you to do - I want you to imagine that you have a bunch of folks who volunteer for the regular army, national guard, reserve, what have you. Every one of them gets fingerprinted, national agency checked, annually drug tested, annually checked on their proficiency at arms, annually checked for medical readiness, annually checked for HIV, annually checked for physical fitness. In some cases they're put in charge of armed aircraft, armed vehicles, machineguns - all kinds of gee whiz shite to not only directly defend us, but to also go out there, close with and destroy the enemy - not sanctioned by the civilian authority mind you, but ORDERED by the civilian authority.

And now - you want those folks to come to the state with a check for the right to conceal a pistol on their person to defend themselves or their families out and about in public?

Yes, just like I expect them to pay taxes and vote.

Laughably absurd on its face. But, go ahead and think of this in the same way you do folks down at the Waffle House giving guys in uniform a breakfast combo for half price.

I think higher of that because it is a private company that wants to offer the discount. Not me as a taxpayer having to fork over more money because of the job you chose to have.

Setting aside the voting thing, from a real standpoint, paying taxes on military (or federal civilian, for that matter) wages is the height of government insanity/inefficiency. We do it (as an accounting fiction ONLY) so the masses don't lynch the civilian employees (they wouldn't the military, because G-d bless us, we still love our men and women in uniform, thankfully that part of the country is still intact).

That's like charging your full time maintenance man rent. You pay him his wages and he turns around and hands you part of it to cover rent. Great - if you both feel better, but he's not really paying you rent.

Same for military/federal civilian workers paying taxes on that income. Whatever floats your boat, but if it wasn't so inefficient and inane, it would be humorous.
