I don't follow baseball much, but I can't think that would go over well in Oxford. Maybe the kid just wanted to get away from home and/or not play for his dad (both understandable for any kid).

It was no secret he did not want to play for his dad. The interesting thing is his family is still LSU fans. His sister, who is in the school I teach, still wears LSU gear and Delgado all the time!

Definitely understandable. I couldn't play for my dad either

ETA: Anyone have any stats on the kid?
ETA2: Nevermind

their team is stacked. Like 4 MLB prospect on one team, starting pitcher had a 0.00 era last season and was 12-0 and they had another ace not far behind. They should not have lost a game this season. The catcher is batting .400 with 11 homers (Thomas Dillard)

Mike Bianco and his wife, Cami, concluded when he took the job in 2000 none of their sons would play baseball for their dad at the collegiate level. So, while Drew, a sophomore infielder at Oxford, and Ben, a junior catcher with the Chargers, have the talent to be recruited by upper-level schools, the destinations will be elsewhere. “I’d like them to go somewhere where they make it or don’t and sink or swim on their own,” Mike Bianco said. “They don’t have to be the coach’s son. You’re not playing because you’re the coach’s son and you didn’t fail because you’re the coach’s son. Let them be Drew Bianco and Ben Bianco and (youngest son) Sam Bianco.

My brother n law is a coach at Oxford High and said he didn't want to submit his dad to that kind of criticism. And his dad said he didn't want his kids playing for him.
