Yes. The Pats do well in free agency and coaching them up.
Really they have had some really questionable picks at times lately. They aren't exactly above anyone else there. They can afford drafting back in drafts though and acquiring more picks. Sometimes it works and look genius and even when it doesn't work they still find football success.

The biggest success I attribute to the Patriots is their excellent forethought in knowing who to give the big contract to. I think the whole constant reading back thing does allow them to get more players in, but I don't think they're an incredible drafting team just because of that.
