Years of bad advice multiplied by internet forums. A full size handgun packs way more advantages for home defense; more capacity, better weight balance, easier to manipulate, better recoil characteristics, etc. than a compact one. I keep my G26 handy but if I didn't have it my next choice would be my 92FS or .357 GP100 MC. Both are a pleasure to shoot, the GP100 makes even stout .38 SPC defense loads feel like the softest 9mm loads my 92FS can cycle.
