JIm is correct. have a close relative getting a phD in this subject. It all begins at infancy (usually).

From what I've seen at work...this isn't shocking at all. I see too many lazy parents(remember that I work in a hospital that serves mostly very poor and uneducated people) that just shut up their crying baby every time....by sticking a bottle in their mouth. Overfeeding babies and not thinking anything is wrong with that. Fat baby becomes a fat toddler. Lazy parents again...toddler throws a tantrum...give them sweets to shut them up. Put soda or juice in their sippy cup cause they won't drink anything else. Throws another tantrum for dinner...fast food to shut them up. Unhealthy eating habits have been established early on and food is used to placate the child.
And yet people wonder why there are so many obese children?
