Spirit Airline: is it worth it?

Flying with the wife and in-laws to Chicago in September and Spirit has roundtrip flights for $125~. I have heard mixed reviews from friends, but wanted to get some advice from the venerable travel board. Is it worth the savings or should I just pony up the extra $200 for Delta?

The extra charges for luggage alone will probably eat up the cost savings from what I hear.

Probably not, I fly with Southwest most of the time and I know there prices are comparable.

i would not take spirit on any flight lasting more than an hour

it's not worth it. worst airline for leg room

I use it for short flights where I require nothing more than an overnight bag. never had an issue and never paid more than 60 bucks.

If I'm flying somewhere for a quick weekend and have 1 personal item, spirit is great. Usually take it from MSY to DFW.
