Yeah, Strall had already replaced Smith and was warming up when the rain delay started. So it looks like he had to finish throwing to that batter before he could be replaced, which is what ended up happening.

Was Strall's pitch a strike?


It appeared to be, but I was in a rain delay induced semi-coma.

Strall threw one pitch and walked the guy last night. He is in the box score, but is not pegged with the walk. The count was 3-1, so Smith was taxed with the "losing" count. Strall is not responsible for the walk.

In a similar situation, Cartwright had a 2-2 count at Auburn when he left the game with an injury. Bugg entered with an "even count", so he was responsible for the batter and was pegged with the walk.

After the delay they could have brought anyone else to pitch, but Strall would have been burned.

Because of the delay, it's more than means to justify.
