Upon watching the dvd release I was still pretty pleased with the product. Still kinda unhappy about how Luke was presented. I think maybe in the grand scheme of the overall series this movie maybe looked back on as a chance to do some cool stuff with Luke that was not capitalized on.

If that was the force awakening, then it needs to be put to sleep. It was the definition of meh.

Why did they have to make Luke a homeless wreck. I think they may have ruined the character. How does he come back from that. Also the downvoter can eat a d. Nothing worse than some damn nameless faceless downvoter trying to anomymously shite on a quality post.

It's getting worse for me on rewatch. It's a pretty mediocre film IMO.

I really like this aspect of the movie. It was a great core plot point to drive the story. If he is used well in VIII and IX, then I think VII becomes an even better film.

I was a Star Wars Kid from the beginning. I watched it. It was pretty much the same the New Hope. Same basic plot.

I was really looking forward to it but it really was nothing unexpected.

The first time I saw it, I was a little hesitant. The second time I saw it; much better. The third time I saw it, I appreciated how great it was and how it did everything it needed to to win me over. Was it perfect, oh no. I would have liked things a little differently but nothing is perfect.

AMazing when people say shite like this before seeing the rest of the trilogy.

You could say the same thing about a bunch of characters if you watch A New Hope and have never seen Empire or Return.

That said, i am a little wary of Episode VIII seeing as we we lost both Kasdan and Abrams.

I loved it, but now watching it at home I find it drags during some parts. Han Solo getting back in his ship and running from that monster. Anything with Finn.

I just want to see more and more of Kylo Ren and not have to sit through most of the other things.

I get chills every time I watch the Luke scene again. Mark Hamill is awesome and it's a shame his live action acting has been typecast. He is a legit acting talent.

It was a "setup movie" for a trilogy. I hate that they did that, but it happened.

The beauty of the originals is that they all meshed well without feeling too episodic. Stories were brought up and concluded by the end of the movie. You always had the "how will they defeat the empire?!" story but everything else was given closure in every movie.

With this one they were OBVIOUSLY going for a trilogy to tell a story. TFA wasn't bad by any means but I hate how it was made to be a "Part 1".

I enjoyed it a lot the second time round.

You will get a lot of people bitching in this thread about a science fiction movie not being realistic enough.

I dont see whats so hard about just kicking back and enjoying the movie. Suspend belief for a couple of hours.

I saw it 4 times in theaters and probably watched it 3 times now at home. I guess you can say I really like it a lot.. It had the same feel of the originals.

Movie gets worse every time I watch it. Seeing yet another Deathstar, more inept storm troopers, emo Darth Vader and Hobo Skywalker just makes it irritating to watch.

I understand why they basically remade ANH and included the old-time favorites. I appreciated seeing them on the screen, but the reality is it would have been better as a total reboot following Luke through his journey. The only thing of substance in it IMO was Rey. I do want to see her journey, just don't care about any of the others.

hamill would have completely overshadowed all of the new cast. This is one of the best choices they made

As a fan I agree but from the writer's perspective you're trying to get the audience to focus on and care about these new characters. Luke would suck all the air out of the room.

Not a fan.

It was just A New Hope warmed over, so they could show a strong female and black leads. It went big because fans were hungry for more.

And the biggest load of hooey is when you look at the details. No way Finn or Rey withstand Kylo if you go by established SW logic. Kylo is shown as being more powerful than Vader, yet is stopped by a trooper stooge. Vader would have choked his life force out in a minute. Yet Kylo couldnt, even after he had just killed his own father. Weak. Oh, so very weak

And a second Death Star.

And killing off Han. Are you kidding me? I stopped caring right there. The rest was unwatchable

I am far more interested in Rogue One at the moment.

I suspect we'll get a pretty big leak about the main male protagonist in the next few weeks...
