We had a thread about Yellowstone Super volcano a few months ago. It's like the super bowl for people who are interested in geology.

As to the uninhabitable claim, the ash fall out would likely cover most of the country. Being multiple feet deep near the event out to thin coatings around the edges.

While I tend to agree with your sentiment, the research on the Yellowstone caldera and supervolcano are pretty well documented. An eruption would be a bitch to put it lightly.
