Any recommendations on a homemade style store bought hushpuppy? Frying fish for a bachelor party, doing the fries from scratch but I don't want to mess with a hushpuppy batter. Any good brands that can be found locally (BR)?

Also how many pounds of catfish filets for 16-18 guys who have been drinking all day?

Sorry for the 2 word title won't happen again.

Dude, hush puppies are so easy to make. And way less messy than fish or French fries.

And they're only good when they're hot.

So, not sure you're going to find a store bought kind that is satisfactory.

I like this with added diced jalapenos.

Jiffy

Oh and half a pound of fish per person is plenty. Add another pound to the total if you want to be safe.

Fresh Pickens in Lafayette has some pretty damn good pre made jalapeño hush puppies. I know that doesn't do you much good in Baton Rouge, but just thought I'd pass it along in case you're ever in those parts.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I ended up picking up a couple of boxes of jiffy mix. So we will have at least 15lbs of catfish, 15lbs of potatoes for frying, and hush puppies. We will probably end up boiling at some point as well.

Mike Anderson's Hush Puppies are the best and very easy:

Straight out of Mike Anderson's cook book:

1TB Salt
2 teaspoons cayenne
1.5 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1.5 cups evaporated milk
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1/2 cup finely chopped green bell peppers
1.5 cups finely chopped yellow onions
2.5 cups yellow cornmeal
1 cup self-rising flour
Cottonseed Oil

In a large bowl, combine all ingredients except oil. Mix well. Heat cottonseed oil to 350 degrees. Drop hushpuppy mixture into hot oil by spoonfuls. Fry 4-6 mins.
Serves 6-8 people
