Ok, let's say that I'm still using my iPhone 4s. They are still saying that continued updates will eventually force me to switch. Why?

iPhones are ridiculously fragile. Why?

Battery life starts to go after a few years, too. Why?

I know the answer to all of these, and the answer is the same for each. Doesn't mean that it's fair, though.

you understand EVERY tech company does this, not just Apple right? planned obsolescence is necessary because its not cost efficient to code for and support multiple gens of hardware.

huh? they don't update all models because at some point it becomes absurd to update antiquated technology that can't even run the new version of the software. this same idea rings true for pc's, albeit on a longer time frame due to decreased innovation.

it's fragile because it's a powerful computer made of glass and aluminum, and it is small enough to carry in your pocket. all of the top tier phones are fragile. to make it not fragile will increase its size and be detrimental to its appearance.

battery life starts to go because it's a damn battery they all lose their life over time. you replace your car battery, right? and you probably use it much less than you use your phone.

none of this is about fairness. this is reality. apple wants to make money, yes. that's capitalism. but people keep coming back because they sell a good product at (apparently) a fair price. you get 2 years out of a new phone then sell it for $2-300. that's how it is. you don't like it? get a tracfone.
