I'm a member of the PCA which is the denomination affiliation of Covenant College. Apparently it's always been their policy not to play on Sunday, so I respect them for not caving on their convictions. That said, I've never quite understood the dogma surrounding the sabbath, particularly since biblically the sabbath is Saturday. My (probably simplistic) understanding is Christians should set aside one day a week for worship and rest. Many church's have Saturday/weekday services. Not sure why Sunday became such a sacred day to preserve

I'm a PCA guy myself. Its a fine line. At least my congregation and others around it have taken a classic Reformed stance that Sunday is the Lord's Day. For example, our families should think about the implications of travel ball and soccer tournaments every weekend. However, we do not believe that recreation is forbidden on Sunday.

But Covenant has had this policy, as do most Presbyterian affiliated universities. I know Belhaven and Maryville do. However Centre and Tulsa have abandoned it. I'm just pleased to see someone sticking to their guns when the stakes are high. Like the article said, whether you believe in the Reformed tradition or not, you have to respect Covenant for forfeiting a championship opportunity.
