There were eight teams that made the playoffs every year with four teams in each league. If you give the Braves a 50% chance of advancing to the NLCS, they would have played in seven league championship series. The Braves ended up playing in nine so they actually overachieved in that regard. There's a 25% chance they play in the World Series which is three or four WS appearances. The Braves played in five World Series so they overachieved there as well. There's a 12.5% chance they win the World Series which is two WS wins. This is the lone area where the Braves ended up underachieving in the postseason because they only won one. They should have beaten the Yankees in 1996. I think that's the only postseason series where you can say the Braves clearly blew it. Other than that series though, the Braves postseason performances were perfectly fine. They definitely weren't this huge underachieving team in the playoffs like people keep saying

You're assuming they had a 50/50 chance in every series. They were hands down better in a few series they lost though. In 1998 they won 106 games and didn't make it to the World Series

The Padres were a buzz saw that year. The Braves just weren't as good as them.
