I have also never heard of a person liking the taste of non alcohol beer

Why do you think they make it?

If OP likes the taste of non-alcoholic beer he should try an alcoholic beer, much better tasting.

Just smoke some weed and drink a root beer and you'll be good to go.

I'd be an alcoholic too if I had to suffer through being an Auburn fan

I said well yeah but that's no reason to throw me in Hell
Cause I didn't use the cocaine to get high, I just liked the way it smelled

Get to the point
Let's smoke another joint
Head on down the road
I got somewhere to go
Turn the radio up loud
I'm too alone to be proud
You don't know what it's like
To be me.

Do you drink 1 or do you pound 6? 6 is an issue because let's say you like Sprite, do you drink 6?

I think you're ok if it's a taste thing, like you love it with crawfish.

But if you are just going home and drinking a few NAs for no reason, you're in trouble

My personal experience is to just leave it all alone and pick up a new and better habit like coffee. I was pretty hard on the beer for many years. Found that I really enjoyed beer because their were so many different options, like a kid in a candy store. Decided to start trying a few different coffee blends and BAMMMMM I was hooked. Would brew up a good random cup in the morning and another in the afternoon. Just my experience

Because the person who must weekend binge on anything is likely to continue on to a problem.

Anecdotally, I'm sure you have plenty of success stories but long term, there are very few people who consistently binge on the weekends for years and don't develop a problem. Listening to my brother, it was the Mondays that he had to work early that slowly led to his problem overwhelming him...

This conversation is about someone who acknowledges a problem so please keep that in mind...

I think there are people who have problems with drinking and there are people with drinking/addiction problems. Not sure how the professional/rehab community would deal with that. I could be wrong, but I've spoken with a counselor who seemed to agree.

I know plenty of people, myself included at times, who allow alcohol to cause issues in their life sporadically. But, many of them, myself included, can and do simply not drink for weeks at a time without any real urge to do so.

That type of thing might be what the other poster was referring to, I'm not sure.

The issue is not the type of beer. As a child of alcoholism I can tell you the primary issue here is "I." I want, I like, I, I, I. Your thoughts should be, my behavior when drinking brought pain and suffering to my family and friends. This is obvious because of your wife's strong reaction to the NA beer. NOTHING is worth going back to that. And at only 4 months I can tell you those wounds are still raw and not even close to healing. You have probably lost trust from the people you love. Building back that trust takes time and baby steps. If any behavior, regardless of how trivial it may seem to you or others, hinders building that trust then please step back and count the cost. In 20 years what will you say you missed most in life, the taste of beer or the wasted opportunities to heal relationships.

I know a couple of older adults who have stuck to NA beer to quench their thirst in order to avoid alcohol. Seems to work well from what I've heard.

bit elderly guy i work with was always a heavier drinker etc. I think he's changed his drinking habits for more health reasons (i believe) more so than alcoholic type reasons. But i'm pretty sure he's gone near cold turkey on alcohol, but he does drink NA beers at places quite frequently. Every now and then he goes through quite a few. Not sure how much relevance his scenario is with yours.

The Big Book on page xxiv (The Doctor's Opinion) says that an alcoholic has an "allergy to alcohol". An allergy is an abnormal reaction to any food, liquid or substance. If nine out of ten people have one reaction and one out of ten people have a different reaction, then the reaction of the one out of ten is abnormal. It also says on page xxvi that "the action of alcohol on an alcoholic is a manifestation of an allergy; that the phenomenon of craving is LIMITED to this class and NEVER occurs in the average temperate drinker." (A phenomenon is something that you can see but can't explain). "These allergic types can NEVER safely use alcohol in ANY FORM AT ALL".
