1979 LSU vs. Florida State
At the 18:50 mark, Hokie (#47) has a few carries. Almost takes one to the end zone but steps out at the 8 yard line.
At the 36:00 mark, Hokie gets a few more carries and plows into the end zone for a TD.
Current LSU coach, Steven Ensminger, is QB for LSU.

I was there...1979 was an " almost " season. Almost beat Fla.State, USC, Alabama, etc. Lots of close games, Hokie was a good one.

That's my earliest memories of Tiger Stadium, PA announcing his name.

Also note how smoking the homecoming court is. That's what Homecoming courts looked like before political correctness ruled the world.

Great video. On radio this morning they said he got his nickname from busting his head open at 2 years old doing the Hokie Pokie. If that is true, that is awesome.

Great video...Geaux Hokie...
And I love the uniforms (white socks) and the alternating green color of the field...bring it back!

Some other notes/memories of Hokie:
- Hokie played as a true Fr as a DB in '77. Don't recall if he ever started but think he played a lot.
- In '78 he played FB in front of Charles Alexander. We've had a lot of good FB's over the years but Hokie is arguably the best ever.
- After Alexander left, Hokie played TB in '79.
- In '80, we went to the veer (Bo Rein's staff) and Hokie played RB.
Personal favorites:
- In '78 (on a game that was televised live at UK on Sat night; not sure how this game was broadcast since the TV rules were different then), UK had a DB named Venus Meaux. Venus int'd a pass and on the return, Hokie planted him. (He did something similar as a Saint vs KC DB Deron Cherry).
- In '79 we were losing pretty bad to OM at Miss Memorial Stadium. Hokie caught a pass in the flats and housed it. Big part of the comeback win.
There used to be some videos on YouTube by rnolan that would show these but have apparently been removed.
Hokie was a great Tiger and LA icon.

The following play has Ensminger being sacked by Ron "Farooq" Simmons. Damn!!

#43 is Robert DeLee from Clinton LA. I grew up with his kids, played baseball with them in the summers.
I didn't realize he played the same years as Hokie. Wow!
I'll have to ask him some questions next time I see him.
Thanks for the video.

Agreed! Amazing the "national" level of talent LSU gets these days compared to yester-year. I love Charlie Mac and all the La. players but to win these days you have to go national. I thank Les Miles for this and the ever-changing landscape of college football. As for the recently departed Mr. Gajan he reminded me of Johnny Musso of Ala. with his power and grace. Rest in peace Hokie.

I seem to remember seeing Hokie play in Tiger Stadium on the JV in a mid-week game his freshman year in 1977.

I played on a state championship team with R. Delee in 1976. He was a 235 lb. tailback, huge for that time.
He was moved to TE when he got to LSU, as he would not have played ahead of Alexander4Heisman or Hokie.
