So I picked this album up on RSD due to so many on here raving about Sturgill. Not knowing much about him, I figured "what the hell, it's only one record". I have listened to this album about 5 times in the last 5 weeks, and it gets better with each spin.

I guess initially I was sort of negatively biased as it falls in the "country" genre, of which I am not a huge fan of...but classifying this as country is sort of like classifying Lyle Lovett as country--which is a stretch.

I suppose the last 20 years of Bro Country has put such a negative connotation on the genre that when a fantastic classic country album by a very talented musician comes out, it's tough to get out from under the stigma.

Long story short...great friggin' record!

Easily AOTY thus far for me. Give Metamodern Sounds in Country Music a spin as well. I think you'd really enjoy it. I still listen to it regularly and it's over 2 years old.
